What do you guys think about the snow? How would you incorporate this into your classroom during the winter time?
I would talk about the four seasons: winter, spring, summer and fall. I would have them do activities in all areas of learning such as math, science, english and art dealing with snow. I think that children would enjoy going outside and exploring snow hands-on. Many lessons could come out of using the four seasons.

Creating a website
This was surprisingly a lot easier than I had anticipated. I remember creating websites when I was in 7th grade and it was much more difficult than it is today. This is because of the technology increases that our society has had since 2000.
The website I created is for an organization that my mom runs in my home town. It's called Friends of Music. It is an education affiliated organization.

iMovie
Doing the iMovie project was fun and informative. It was fun to discover all of the different things you could add to your raw footage. The shooting process itself was fun to do as well because we were able to use our imaginations and do whatever we wanted to represent our specific vocabulary word.
Making a website for the family I babysit for in Cortland
I learned how to make a website on google. I decided to make one for the family that I babysit for. I wanted them to have a place to put pictures and create their own page on the website that tells their name, age, activites they like to do and pictures. The children really enjoye sitting down one by one with me. The parents also thought it was very nice of me to set up a family website for them. They plan on continuing to use the website. The children are excited to type more things and take more pictures to upload onto the website.
I definately plan on using a website for my classroom to communicate with my parents as well as my students. It informs the parents of what is going on daily in the classroom and they can look on the website for upcoming field trips and other events.

Discrepant Event
So how did you guys feel about the discrepant event? I did not enjoy doing this for Orvil's class because I was so nervous to get up in front of the class and talk about my event because we had to memorize what we were talking about. I tried to go the whole time but it was hard to extend my event to meet the five minute mark. I was relieved when it was done, though. I also liked watching the rest of my classmates events, many were very interesting.
Net book
At first I didn't really understand why we needed a netbook and honestly I still don't know why we had to purchase it but in the end I did like having the netbook because it was more convient than toting around my laptop that is heavier. I also liked having the 3G when my wireless internet wasn't working well. Even though I ended up liking the netbook, I am not purchasing it because I don't need 2 computers.
Technology Class EDU 315
I came into this class with very little technology knowledge. I have never used a Mac computer before and now I know how to do several things on it. I have learned about imove, blogs, photo story, puzzle maker, and many other differnet areas included in this class. I will definatly use the knowledge that I have learned in EDU 315 in my cuture classroom. I have learned alot and I plan to continue to learning more about technology through research and workshops.
Netbook
At first i did not like the fact about the netbook but after using it I really enjoyed it. It is easier to carry around then my big laptop that I have. I am happy that we get a chose to buy the netbook. I looked up the price and it is cheaper to buy it from the school instead of the store. I am going to buy the netbook because i feel like it is going to be very beneficial especially will all the different things we have to download.
Practicum
I really enjoyed my placement in Mrs. Riley's class and I plan on going back and visiting the class. I loved learning new techniques on how to manage the classroom, like Mrs. Riley would stop talking to show that she was waiting for the students to stop talking because that is not respectful to talk to while someone else is talking. I also liked seeing the student teacher take over the class and use her own techniques for keeping the room clean. She would have a game called secret item and she would have the students pick up an item off the floor that had been dropped throughout the day and whoever had the secret item got a piece of candy. Then she found out that the students liked it better if they just kept the class clean all the time and then she would put a handful of bears into a jar and when it became full she would give the whole class a prize.
imovie
We had to create an imovie for EDU 315 describing a word. Our word was pettifog. We sat down as a group and figured out how we wanted to plan out our movie. Then we used the video/camera from Dr. Shi and we filmed our movie. I enjoyed doing the imovie with Jocelyn and Alicia. It was interesting how we were able to add and cut out clips and pictures. Then we came to the class and put everything together. I would definately use imovie in my future classrooms for the students to create their own stories. I think this would be a very educational yet creative project for the students to do. I enjoyed this project very much!
IMovie
At first i did not like the imovie because I was getting very frausted. Every time you go and edit and then paste it i would end up pasting the wrong section so i would have to delete it and do it again. The part i liked about the IMovie was acting. I think this was good for us to learn to teach our students so then they can learn how to use a camera, IMovie and You Tube.
Practium
What would you do if you were faced with this as a teacher. My host teacher got a phone call from a parent. The parent did not want her child going on the field trip tomorrow. My host teacher said there is going to be a teacher's aide and parents volunteering and I will also be there. The parent was afraid that her child was going to be kidnapped. The parent told, "my host teacher that if anything happens to her daughter tomorrow that she is going to kill her." My host teacher had to come back into the room and finish teaching acting like nothing happen. I think that would be really hard to do and then during lunch she went to the principles to tell him about the situation.
Practicum
Monday was my last day at practicum. :( It's nice to be done with it, but I'll miss all of my 4th graders. I feel like I learned a lot from it. I not only learned from Mrs. Curran, but I learned things from the students as well!!
Media Projects
I also enjoyed doing the voice thread, it was one of the more interesting projects in this class. I also liked doing the imovie because we got to have fun using a camcorder and using our acting skills. The other projects like the MS Office and the puzzle maker were not as fun but they are useful tools that I can use sometime in the future in my own classroom. Actually I used the puzzle maker to make a word search for Columbus day for the school age students that are at the daycare I work at.

Netbook
I personally like that we have the netbooks because I have used it places to get on the internet and do work when normally I cannot with my regular labtop. This made it very convienent and nice for me to get work down when I normally wouldn't be able to. The negative aspect of the netbook is that it is expensive for one semester and I thought that we were going to be able to keep it which I didn't realize until it finally was stated that we needed to give it back. I think the netbooks are a good technology tool and the 3G aspect is wonderful. Some people like them and others do not however I seemed to like it for reasons I stated above.

Nature Walk
This picture was taken while on a nature walk. I could use a picture like this within an engagement part of a lesson. I would explain to the students that they will go out and find different leaves and then we would come back to the classroom and categorize them. The leaves could be categorized by color, shape, or by the type of tree it came from depending on the grade level.
Voicethread
I loved doing the voicethread project. I thought it was easy and fun to do. I did mine on New York State, and plan on using it in my observation classroom. Voicethread is a fun way to learn new knowledge! I think that the students will enjoy using them and creating their own!
MLD
I am having a hard time justifying the purchase of our netbooks. I almost never use mine unless I have to. All of the features that we get with it I already use elsewhere. For example, the internet is something that I already have on my phone. I also already have a laptop which I do most of my work on. I understand the fact that we are supposed to be learning about MLD, but I think most of us already understand how to use them. We live in a technology crazed world, and our generation is at the heart of new ways of learning.

Sackets Harbour
This is the Battle Field of 1812 at Sackets Harbour.I took this picture while visiting with my mom, dad, aunt and uncle last weekend. It was a beautiful place. This would be a great place to bring students to learn about the History that went on during 1812. The United States declared war on Great Britian in 1812. Sackets harbor became the main headquarters of the United States millitary for the northern frontier. This was a battle in which American farmers fought against British warships. This would be a great Social Studies Lesson for the upper grade levels such as 5th or 6th grade students. I think they would enjoy visiting Sackets Harbour and learning about the Battle Field of 1812 and what happened during this time.

Practicum
I am loving my observation time! It's so different to go from learning about teaching to actually applying to a classroom full of 8 and 9 year olds!! It's great to finally be able to get into a classroom to see how what we learn in class applies though. It's much better to actually be out in the field with students because you can see for yourself what things you are good at and what things you need to work on.
The other day I was able to do a guided reading lesson with some of the students. They were just starting a book called Rules. It's about a girl's life as she deals with the issues that arise due to her autistic younger brother. I got to introduce the book and do somewhat of a book talk with them. Unfortunately, they were a bit rowdy because I'm not their normal teacher, but overall it went well. I learned a lot about myself as a teacher in that short period of time. I learned that not only do I need to be a bit more assertive when it comes to student behavior, but that I also need to learn how to explain things to 4th graders so that it's not over their head, but not dumbed down so much that it insults their intelligence. I feel fortunate to have been able to do this lesson with them. :)

Nature walk
The content area would be science and the grade level I would do this with would be 3rd grade. I would show the students this picture of the holes in the tree. Then I would have the students think about how these holes were formed into this tree. Was it an animal, or bugs who made these holes. Once they make their perdiction. Then we will come together as a group and have a chart and write down what they thought made these holes. After we do that i will tell them that a bird made these holes. I will show them a picture of a woodpecker and talk about why they make these holes and about the way there beak is made to perform this task.

Classroom Observations
This is one of the themes that we could use so i picked it because it seems like we could learn from each others observations. In my host classroom, the teacher Mrs. Riley counts down 3, 2, 1 and when she reaches 1 everyone should be quiet, if they aren't then she waits until they are so she can move on. Another interesting thing in my host classroom is that there is a special education teacher who works right in the classroom for a couple of hours each day because there are many inclusive students in the class.
